What to Expect When Going Through Menopause

Menopause is something that women who pass a certain age will experience. It marks the time when your ovaries stop producing estrogen and progesterone and no longer release eggs. It can be a bit of a confusing and sometimes scary time for women, but you aren’t alone. Most women experience menopause between the ages of 45-55, but it varies between women. Usually, menopause will start for you around the time it starts for your mother or sisters. While you can still get pregnant during menopause, it’s highly unlikely, and you will experience infertility Cary NC afterward, as your ovaries have stopped releasing ovum. There are three major milestones in the menopause timeline: perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause.

Perimenopause

Perimenopause is the time period just before you start menopause. This is the time where the production of estrogen and progesterone by your ovaries slows down. You can tell you’ve entered this phase if you’re starting to experience irregular periods and mood swings.

Symptoms include mood changes, urinary incontinence, night sweats, hot flashes, trouble sleeping, vaginal dryness, and sexual discomfort.

Postmenopause

This phase includes all of the time after menopause ends. However, you can still experience vaginal dryness, hot flashes, and other symptoms during postmenopause.
