Preparing for Surgery

What to Bring With You

  • Insurance Card & Prescription Funds
Please bring your insurance card, along with enough money or a form of payment to cover any prescriptions you may need after your procedure. There are several pharmacies conveniently located near our facility, including Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart.

  • Current Medications & Medical Devices
If you use an inhaler for asthma, please bring it with you. Patients with high blood pressure, heart conditions, or asthma should take their regular medications on the morning of surgery with only two tablespoons of water (unless otherwise instructed by your provider).

    • If you have diabetes, do not take insulin or diabetes pills the morning of your procedure. Your surgical team will give you further instructions for managing your blood sugar.

Personal Care Guidelines

  • Artificial Nails & Nail Polish
If possible, remove artificial nails and nail polish before surgery. This allows our medical team to monitor your oxygen levels accurately. We understand this may not always be possible—if that’s the case, please let us know and we will work with you.

  • Makeup & Lotions
Please avoid wearing makeup, lotions, or heavy skin products on the day of your procedure. Your skin needs to be clean so our team can properly prepare the surgical area.

  • Jewelry & Piercings
Remove as many piercings and pieces of jewelry as possible before surgery. If there are any you cannot remove, please notify our staff in advance.

What to Wear

  • Comfortable Clothing
Wear loose, comfortable clothing—especially pants that will not rub against your incision site. If your procedure includes liposuction or a related surgery, be sure to bring your compression garment as instructed. (Click here for more information on choosing the right garment.)

  • Eyewear
If you usually wear contact lenses, please bring a lens case and solution so you can remove them before surgery. Alternatively, wear your glasses instead.

Day-of-Surgery Arrangements

  • Transportation
You will not be able to drive yourself home after surgery. Arrange for a responsible adult (age 18 or older) to take you home.

  • Post-Surgery Care
You must also have someone stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery to assist with meals, mobility, and medication reminders. This is a vital part of ensuring your recovery is safe and smooth.

Additional Notes

  • Fasting Instructions
In most cases, you will be asked not to eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery. Your care team will confirm these instructions during your pre-op consultation.

  • Medical History & Updates
Please notify our staff of any recent changes to your health, including new medications, illnesses, or hospital visits, before your surgery date.

  • Questions & Concerns
We are here to support you. If you have any questions about your preparation, medications, or post-surgery care, contact our office before your procedure.
