Sameh K. Toma, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Medical Director

Dr. Sameh Toma brings over 30 years of experience in reproductive medicine to the Raleigh area, specializing in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Tubal Ligation Reversal Surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University before completing his medical degree and residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. During his residency, Dr. Toma conducted and published research on infertility, endometriosis, and fetal well-being. His most formative training came under the mentorship of the late Dr. Luther Talbert, then Fellowship Director for Reproductive Endocrinology at UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Talbert, a widely respected leader in the field, trained the majority of OB/GYNs practicing in North Carolina at the time. In the early 1990s, Dr. Toma, Dr. Talbert, and Dr. Gerald Mulvaney co-founded the North Carolina Center for Reproductive Medicine (NCCRM), which quickly became a trusted fertility center serving North Carolina and surrounding states. Dr. Toma worked closely with Dr. Talbert for over a decade, treating hundreds of patients and gaining invaluable experience. Upon Dr. Talbert’s retirement, Dr. Toma assumed the role of Medical Director at NCCRM.

Specializing in Tubal Reversal Surgery

Dr. Toma is a leading expert in tubal reversal surgery, a microsurgical procedure known as tubal anastomosis that reconnects fallopian tubes previously blocked due to sterilization. Using advanced microsurgical techniques and high-powered microscopes, he carefully reattaches the narrow sections of the fallopian tubes to restore fertility. With more than 20 years of successful outcomes, Dr. Toma is recognized nationally for his precision and consistently high success rates. Patients seeking tubal reversal surgery are encouraged to consider factors like surgeon credentials, years of experience, and proven results—areas where Dr. Toma excels.

Innovator and Research Contributor

Blending his engineering background with medical expertise, Dr. Toma helped develop color ultrasound technology and personally designed NCCRM’s state-of-the-art laboratory. The lab was modeled after a clean micro-electronics room to ensure the purest air quality for embryology, a key factor behind NCCRM’s outstanding IVF success rates.

While no longer actively involved in research, Dr. Toma previously collaborated with pharmaceutical companies on fertility-related studies, including embryo viability testing using culture media and advances in egg freezing technology. His insights continue to inform the field, and he currently serves on advisory boards for several fertility medication manufacturers.

Dr. Toma is also the former President of the Rex Surgery Center of Cary, an outpatient surgical facility affiliated with Rex Hospital, bringing valuable leadership and clinical experience to his role at NCCRM.
