There are many things that can cause problems like infertility Cary NC in women. Cervical dysplasia is something that can be found with a pap smear or other pelvic exams. Keep reading to learn more about cervical dysplasia.

What is Cervical Dysplasia?

Cervical dysplasia is an infection that occurs when abnormal cells grow on the cervix or endocervical canal. It starts as noncancerous, and rarely leads to cancer in the future. By having no symptoms, it can be hard to diagnose without a pelvic exam. If you are diagnosed with cervical dysplasia, your doctor or NCCRM provider might also recommend a colposcopy, which is an examination of your cervix, vagina, and vulva. In doing so, they can see where the cells are growing from, the severity of the spread, and collect samples of the cells.

Causes

Cervical dysplasia is commonly found in women with human papillomavirus (HPV) and is most common in sexually active women under 30. The body can usually get rid of the infection, but if it spreads or worsens, it can lead to cervical dysplasia. It can also be found in smokers, as smoking can weaken the immune system.

Treatments

The body can usually get rid of it on its own, but it can worsen, causing later problems. If the cells spread or cause the person to become unable to perform daily tasks, they can be removed. It’s important to get treatment early and follow up with your physician often. If not, it can become worse and lead to cancer.
