What Is The Process for Egg Donations?
To start, there are a few guidelines for egg donations in North Carolina. Donors must:
- Be between the ages of 19 and 32 years of age
- Have a BMI between the correct ranges (see chart below)
- Have health insurance coverage
- Attend one of our egg donations in North Carolina classes
- Be willing to undergo a physical and lab work
- Be willing to administer shots to oneself on a daily basis for several weeks
- Be able to come to NCCRM’s offices in Cary and Greensboro multiple times for testing
- Undergo minor surgery to retrieve the eggs
After we receive the donor form, our staff will review the information to determine whether or not they meet the requirements. If so, donors must complete a donor education course to prepare for egg donations. A physical, blood work, testing for sexually transmitted diseases, and genetic testing will all be completed before female egg donation to ensure the donor and their eggs are in suitable health.
Once the consent forms are signed and an egg donor is matched with the recipient, the donor will begin taking daily shots of fertility medicine for several weeks. The donor will then be required to visit our offices 6-12 times during this time and undergo testing to ensure proper egg development. Once the oocytes are ready, they will be retrieved from the ovaries. Donors must take the rest of the day to recover and may resume normal activities the following day.
