Realistic Goals When Trying to Conceive

If you are trying to get pregnant or are struggling with infertility, having resolutions can help guide you to cope better and even improve your health while boosting fertility. Don’t focus on all your resolutions at once; you may end up feeling overwhelmed. Focus on one at a time, perhaps one resolution per month, or every two months.

Reach Out for Support

Dealing with the stress of trying to get pregnant or infertility challenges on your own is not easy. Make it a goal to reach out for support when you need it, whether it be from a friend, family member, doctor, or professional counselor. Getting support can help relieve you from some of the stress you are likely feeling. Depression is common among people with infertility challenges, so please see a counselor if you feel as if you are depressed. Some research has found that depression can impact fertility as well.

Healthy Eating Habits & Exercise

You should aim to practice healthy eating habits and regular exercise not only because you are trying to get pregnant, but because you deserve to treat your body with care. Research has shown that what we eat can correlate with the odds of getting pregnant. Being overweight or underweight can also negatively impact fertility. Discuss your diet and fitness plans with your doctor or consider meeting with a dietitian or nutritionist.

Alleviate Some of Your Focus

Try cutting down on the time you spend focusing on getting pregnant. If you are constantly taking pregnancy tests, slow it down. If you spend hours on fertility forums, reading fertility blogs, and scrolling through fertility groups on social media, take a step back. Thinking about your fertility constantly will not help you get pregnant, so it is important to know that it is okay to cut back on the time you spend researching and reading. Set aside a short time each day to scroll through forums or check your charts if you are tracking ovulation, but limit yourself to only that scheduled time.

Get the Help You Need

Talk to your doctor or find a fertility clinic in Raleigh NC, such as NCCRM, to get help with your fertility challenges. Putting off getting help for your fertility can decrease your chances of getting pregnant, as increasing age can reduce your odds of a successful pregnancy. If you have been trying for six months and you are over 35, or for a year and you are younger than 35, make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your fertility challenges.
