A sonohysterogram at The North Carolina Center for Reproductive Medicine (NCCRM) is a type of ultrasound that evaluates the inside of a woman’s uterus. This test is typically performed when doing fertility testing, right before IVF, or if a patient has symptoms of a possible uterine abnormality. During a sonohysterography at NCCRM fertility center Cary NC, a very thin catheter is placed inside the patient’s cervical opening, then a saline solution is slowly introduced through the catheter. The saline solution will flow through the uterus and the uterine walls will open up slightly. A transvaginal ultrasound will then show NCCRM doctors the uterine shape and walls and pictures will be taken.
